First meeting
The first workshop of the CAU-Working Group on "EU-UN co-operation in peacekeeping and peace building" was held at the Permanent Representation of the State of Schleswig-Holstein to the Federal Government in Berlin on 8-9th October 2009. The workshop provided a discussion platform for sixteen scholars and practitioners to address the issue “Improving Effectiveness of Peacekeeping and Peace Enforcement through EU-UN Cooperation”. The main goal of the workshop was to make an assessment of UN peacekeeping and peace enforcement missions and EU contributions to them, to provide some recommendations for a common EU-UN peacekeeping doctrine and to work out concrete options for improving EU-UN multilateral cooperation in peacekeeping and peace enforcement.

Fourth Meeting
The 2nd meeting of Working Group I on “The Reform of the UN Security Council: What Role for the EU?” was held at the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) in Rome, on 14 May 2010. The event was organized in the framework of the project “The European Union and the Reform of the United Nations” (Effective Multilateralism), which is carried out by the University of Kiel and the IAI, with the support of the Volkswagen Stiftung.

Second meeting
The second meeting of the project, the 1st of Working Group I on “The EU and the Reform of the UN Security Council” was held at the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) in Rome on 12-13 November 2009. The working group gathered scholars and practitioners from Italy, Europe and the USA, in order to assess the performance of the UN Security Council in the last twenty years, put forward workable proposals for its reform and evaluate the role of the European Union.

Third meeting
The second workshop of the CAU-Working Group was held at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) in Berlin on the 29-30th March 2010. The workshop was devoted to the issue “Improving Effectiveness of Peace Building and State Building through EU-UN Cooperation” and provided a discussion platform for about 25 scholars and practitioners. The main goals of the workshop were to make an assessment of international peace and state building missions, to provide some recommendations for a common EU-UN peace and state building doctrine and to work out concrete options for improving EU-UN cooperation in building peace and state.
